The weather was cold, and a bit freezing at the begining of the hike, it rain a bit - but we did not think about the weather we continue hiking the Troodos mountains like a real Rotaractors. We were 25 people. Rotaractors & Friends.

4 clubs from all over Cyprus join our activity: Rotaract club of Berengaria Cosmopolitan, Rotaract Club of Nicosia, Rotaract club of Larnaka Kition and Rotaract Club of Nicosia Aspelia.

We had a great time and fellowship continue in a tavern after the hike. We thank a lot all people that come to our event!!!! We enjoyed the amazing view, the oxygen, the mountains and looking forward for the next adventure.

‘Hawaiian’ Beach Party 2014 – 19th of July for
the Children of the Evening High School of Limassol

Limassol Amathusia Rotaract Club has organized a “Hawaiian” themed beach party during July 2014, which was attended by more than 300 people. The night turned out to be a great success, receiving enthusiastic comments from the participants. For the entertainment of the attendees we have created a beautiful scenery with candles, bamboo torches and booked an exclusive DJ while we organized a raffle with valuable prizes coming from the sponsors of the event. According to the project planning finalised by our members during a long brainstorming session, the net proceeds from the event had to be used for charity. For this purpose, we have teamed up with a local supermarket chain and we bought coupons that can be used in the supermarkets. More than EUR1500 were used for the purchase of coupons that were thereafter handed over to students of the Evening High School of Limassol who were in need of financial assistance. The delivery of the coupons to the students took place during a small ceremony that was organized by the school headmaster to thank our Club for its contribution.

About “Hope for Children”

HFC 'Hope for Children'– UNCRC Policy, is a non-profit independent institution established on standards and principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and European Union Law. It works on humanitarian and development policy relevant to the defence and promotion of children’s rights. More about Hope for Children at http://www.uncrcpc.org/

Ivi Adamou as an Ambassador of the Rights of the Child

With the initiative of Hope for Children – UNCRC Policy Centre, the successful Cypriot singer Ivi Adamou was appointed as Young Ambassador for the Rights of the Child.

Ivi Adamou with the Director- General of HFC , Mr. Joseph Varughese
The appointment was made having in mind the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child and in particular article 12 thereof which places emphasis on that children have the right to participate in decision-making processes that may be relevant in their lives within the family, the school or the community. Children have the right to express their views in all matters affecting them and their views should be heard and given due weight in accordance with the child's age and maturity.
Ivi Adamou, through her popularity with the public and young people in particular and with her sweet image was chosen as the ideal ambassador to promote healthy behaviors and principles in children, encouraging their participation in the decision-making. More information about Ivi's appointment.

About the Cause

Rotaract Club of Limassol Amathusia will be joining forces with 'Hope for Children'– UNCRC Policy and Ivi Adamou, to raise both funds and awareness for the ‘Beat Bullying’ campaign of Hope for Children – UNCRC.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness both within the education community and the public at large and to create a code identification, prevention and treatment of the phenomenon of bullying and cyber-bullying.
The campaign is radically innovative in that that the psycho-education of children within the school will be made by peers. The children who will be selected and trained by practitioners to act as ambassadors against school bullying in schools will be selected based on their awareness, skill and popularity amongst their peers. The idea is based on the premise that children are some times more receptive of messages when they come from their peers or other young people.

2012! New Year Outing and Vasilopita

In lieu of the scheduled meeting on the 1st Wednesday of the month, (i.e. 4th January 2012), our Club decided to head to Lobby Lounge Bar and Grill on the 6th of January for food and drinks and also the traditional cutting of the Vasilopita for the year 2012

Club President cutting the Vasilopitta
2012 Club Vasilopita
For the benefit of our non-Cypriot followers, the Vasilopita is a traditional New Year's Day cake which contains a hidden lucky coin (flouri). It is traditional that each family bakes a Vasilopita and on New Year's Day, the cake is cut and a piece is distributed to all family members.

No Antonis, the flouri is not REALLY gold..
The person who finds the hidden flouri in their piece of Vasilopita, is thought to be
lucky and that the flouri will bestow luck upon them for the whole year.

In our family, the lucky person was our Immediate Past President Antonis Stylianou! Congratulations Antonis!

After the Vasilopita Dinner, the Club partied like it was 1999! It was back to the 90's night at 7Seas Bar

Below are some photos from the party!

You can find more photos from this club outing on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AmathusiaRAC

Our Club would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and productive 2012!
