About Rotaract and its causes

Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth programme in 1968 and has now grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 8,700 clubs spread around the world and 200,000 + members. It is a service, leadership and community service organisation for young professionals. Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.

"Rotaract" stands for "Rotary in Action"

The goals of Rotaract are:

1. To develop professional and leadership skills;
2. To emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual;
3. To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve;
4. To recognize, practice, and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities;
5. To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide;
6. To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people.
