It works on humanitarian and development policy relevant to the defence and promotion of children’s rights. More about Hope for Children at http://www.uncrcpc.org/

Ivi Adamou as an Ambassador of the Rights of the Child

With the initiative of Hope for Children – UNCRC Policy Centre, the successful Cypriot singer Ivi Adamou was appointed as Young Ambassador for the Rights of the Child.

Ivi Adamou with the Director- General of HFC , Mr. Joseph Varughese
The appointment was made having in mind the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child and in particular article 12 thereof which places emphasis on that children have the right to participate in decision-making processes that may be relevant in their lives within the family, the school or the community. Children have the right to express their views in all matters affecting them and their views should be heard and given due weight in accordance with the child's age and maturity.
Ivi Adamou, through her popularity with the public and young people in particular and with her sweet image was chosen as the ideal ambassador to promote healthy behaviors and principles in children, encouraging their participation in the decision-making. More information about Ivi's appointment.

About the Cause

Rotaract Club of Limassol Amathusia will be joining forces with 'Hope for Children'– UNCRC Policy and Ivi Adamou, to raise both funds and awareness for the ‘Beat Bullying’ campaign of Hope for Children – UNCRC.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness both within the education community and the public at large and to create a code identification, prevention and treatment of the phenomenon of bullying and cyber-bullying.
The campaign is radically innovative in that that the psycho-education of children within the school will be made by peers. The children who will be selected and trained by practitioners to act as ambassadors against school bullying in schools will be selected based on their awareness, skill and popularity amongst their peers. The idea is based on the premise that children are some times more receptive of messages when they come from their peers or other young people.

Christmas Charity for children with cancer

In a Christmas Charity co-operation, Starbucks Coffee Cyprus and Limassol Amathusia Rotaract Club joined forces to raise some money for children with cancer.

On the morning of Saturday 17th December 2011, a stall was up in Anexartisias Street (Διοικητήριο - Πλατεία Γρ. Αυξεντίου) which was busy with Christmas shoppers, and everyone gave their best charitable selves!

Starbucks Coffee donated their renouned coffee and hot chocolate, and Limassol Amathusia offered the yummy muffins and cookies the members made. The result was a festive spirit all around and everyone enjoying themselves while at the same time helping some children in need. Needless to say everything was sold out in record time and the money raised exceeded our expectations!

All money raised will be given locally to children suffering with cancer in the form of a Christmas present, under the guidance of the Cyprus Make a Wish Foundation / Pancyprian Association for children with cancer.
